West Midlands Police: Stay Safe During Your Christmas Office Night OutHi Resident With the festive season upon us, many workplaces across the West Midlands are planning Christmas parties and nights out to celebrate the end of the year. West Midlands Police encourages everyone to enjoy these events while keeping safety and responsibility at the heart of the festivities. Whether you're attending a formal dinner, heading to the pub with colleagues, or enjoying a company-organised party, taking a few simple precautions can help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening. Safety Tips for Festive Nights OutPlan Ahead Make arrangements for how you’ll travel to and from the event. Book licensed taxis in advance where possible, check public transport schedules, and avoid walking alone late at night. Share your plans with someone you trust.
Stick Together Attend the event with a group and look out for one another throughout the night. If someone appears vulnerable or unwell, stay with them and ensure they get home safely. Drink Responsibly Festive celebrations often involve alcohol, but it’s important to know your limits. Avoid excessive drinking, alternate with soft drinks or water, and never leave your drink unattended. Don’t accept drinks from people you don’t know well. Respect Others Work-related events, even in social settings, require respectful behaviour. Poor judgement caused by alcohol can have lasting personal and professional consequences. Be mindful of your actions and how they affect others. Protect Your Belongings Busy venues are common during the festive season. Keep personal items such as phones, wallets, and bags secure and out of sight. Don’t carry large amounts of cash or valuables. Be Aware of Spiking Drink and drug spiking is a serious concern. Watch your drink being prepared, avoid sharing drinks, and know the signs — symptoms may include confusion, nausea, or sudden drowsiness. If you suspect spiking, seek help from venue staff and contact emergency services if needed.
Know Who to Call In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency police concerns, dial 101. Venue staff and security teams are also there to assist if you feel unsafe or need support.
West Midlands Police wants everyone to enjoy the Christmas season while staying safe and looking after each other. A bit of preparation and awareness can help ensure your night out is festive, fun, and incident-free.
